FOnline: 2238 is a Fallout MMORPG based on the FOnline engine.
Currently, it is only available in English.
Other languages may be added later, since the engine supports this feature.
The game is set in 2238, 3 years before Fallout 2.
The world has been expanded and includes both the Fallout and Fallout 2 game areas.

Town Control (TC for short or Town Guarding which is another alias) is a feature of the game that is only available for player-controlled factions (Gangs that possess a base). It gives them the ability to take control of one of the six so called un-guarded towns in the north of the worldmap.

Influence
When some faction is in a TC-enabled town, their mere presence, if it meets a certain condition (needs to have a certain number of people present, with sufficiently gear), increases influence in town and decreases influence of other factions, higher influence unlocks more options for the dominant faction.

You gain more influence points per member if their equipment is better.
Letting other people mine in the local mine (if there is one), will get the currently influencing faction a boost in influence depending on how much that person mined from the mines. This reward is only given if that person leaves the town safetly. If the person is killed before, no influence bonus is given.
Militia
A militia is a small force that helps the faction protect the town from hostile factions trying to take it over. The militia react either when the faction goes the town leader and speaks to him, claiming control, or one from the controlling faction attacks someone, they will then assist them as good as possible.

The militia in every town works the same, when you hire a militia NPC, a random level is picked, random equipment (ranging from knives to rocket launcher), they are giving unlimited ammunition, and of course it's not possible to loot them. Another thing, which differentiaties militia from other NPCs, is that they are assigned random perks. It's also possible to assign a list of friendly factions that they will consider friendly. This list can be edited at the town leader, and is reset when a new faction takes control.

When a militia dies, there's a small chance that it will respawn instead of disappear.

The cost per militia is currently 500 caps. After successfully taking town it's possible to recruit 8 militia and 1 more for each (real life) hour town is hold up to 20.

Note: Militia can't be recruited in Klamath and Modoc.

Reward
Rewards are now being payed out hourly, in both caps and special items per town. The amount of caps gained per hour will increase.
Some of the items given out are unique for each town. Some towns will naturally be more attractive, as there's more valuable resources there.

All rewards are bigger with higher influence.

Ghosthack: New follower system

Followers
Followers are NPCs that follows a PC and helps him in combat and with a variety of tasks. Sometimes they act as a simple meat shield and in other cases they can be a real lifesaver.
There's are four different kinds of followers, that all has special mechanics, but almost all of them follow the general rules of taking up party points.

Companions
These are more like friends, they're more rare but also very useful. They won't die permanently, but respawn at your tent/base/hotel.
Companions will travel around to different towns as wastelanders, and visit mostly bars, but also stay in other places, like shops, or just around in some corner. Companions are both male or female but always humans, and there's a few different weapon types. Companions allow for more customization, you can give them any armor.

Mercenaries
These are humanoid followers that you can recruit in some towns. They'll demand payment from time to time, or else their loyality falls low, which causes them to flee in combat.

Slaves
Can be obtained by using ropes on certain unconscious NPCs in encounters. They can also be purchased at the Slaver's guild. They require drugs from time to time.

Animals
Dogs, Brahmins and other animals generally act as mules or help in combat, they have a more limited set of functionality in their dialogs.
Brahmins won't fight in combat, they'll just flee.

Party Points
For every 3% in speech a PC has he receives a party point.
For every 1 in Charisma you gain 10 party points.
So we have 100 points from each. Magnetic Personality adds 50 points. Good nature adds 50 points.
Absolute maximum party points are therefor 300.

Charisma / followers amount table
35

Number of Slaves you can have is 2 + number of Mercs
Number of Brahmin is 1 + number of Dogs/2
Companion Respawn
If you have rented a room at a hotel, it will be possible for your companions to respawn there (along with you). You can also tell them to respawn at the faction base, or your tent if you have any of those. If no respawn points are available, the companion will die permanently. If not respawn is explicitly set in the dialog, or some option is set, but isn't valid anymore, the replication script will try to find alternative respawns before killing the companion permanently.

Loyality
Via Dialogue you can give your followers certain gifts (depending on what type they are) and they contribute to a new factor, the follower loyalty.
When you receive a follower they have a loyality of 100% and this decays 10% each day.

A follower sticks out a fight until it has (100-loyalty)% HP remaining. A 90 HP follower at only 20% loyalty only stays fighting with you until (100-20)% HP remaining = 90*0.8 = 72HP. As soon as he has 71 or under, he will flee the map.

How high or low their loyality is can be spotted when talking to them, if they have high loyality, they'll praise the PC, if not, they'll show a lack of respect.

Mercs
They fight for money. Their wage is 25% of their hire cost and gives 10% increase in loyalty.

Companions
They use nuka cola, bear, cookie, booze, iguana-on-a-stick. Each item gives 1-2%.

Slaves
Slaves use jet. 5-10% increase per jet dose.
If slave loyality goes down too low, they may attempt to kill their master.

Animals
Animals always have full loyality, and will fight to their death if commanded to do so.

Orgins
Sarmatia is a society build on ancient ideology of Sarmatism. Ideology of which every inhabbitant, is to be dedicated towards the faction but remaining free towards himself. No matter of your orgins nor ancestors, your skill or mutation, as long as you strive for glory of the Sarmatian society, you are integral part of it. As an individual who strives for Sarmatian glory is Sarmatia and Sarmatia is he, nobody in and especially outside of Sarmatia can order you what to do, or tell you what to think, becouse you know yourself, the most glories way to show Sarmatia the path. Sarmatia is an everlasting goal, an invinsible organism, a spirit that is alive, growing and changing by individuals involved.

The Council
Becouse many path can Sarmatia walk, and many individuals see diffrent paths, an Elder Council is held. There, the individuals bring their toughts, sharing them and evolving them with the others, and if the thought is accepted by majority, it becomes the path.

Constitutional rules are as follows:

* You strive for the Sarmatian society's best.

* You do not cross your fellow Sarmatian's path.

* You put aside personal greed and take only as much as you need.

An Sarmatian can disobey an order given to him by the Leader or an Elder, if he believes the order does not follow the constitutional rules. Elder council is to afterwords decide the orders rightfulness relative to the constitution.

Any changes towards the constitutional rules must include all Elder Council members votes, and all votes must be positive if the new rule is to be accepted.

War
When Sarmatia or an Sarmatian individual is in danger, its every members responsibility to turn to the battle. State of war, if possible, is to be decided by the Elder Council, if time dissallows the consultation of the Elder Council, the Leader decides.

Leadership
In Sarmatia, the most decisive decision wise is the Elder Council. There the most important decisions are made, the choosen leader, is to administrate the society in the way to achive the decisions made in the council. When new leader is choosed, he must sign Pacta Conventa, which is to be prepared by Elders, and includes the goals that the choosen leader must strive towards during his cadency.

The Leader, the oldest of the elders, is to appear to the outside world as one, inside beign equal to his fellow Elders.

Recruits
The Recruitment is currently: Open

The Recruits are to pass several tests to prove themselfs as an worthy addition. The tests usually lasts around 10 days, which includes participation in both scavaging or combat missions toghether with other recruits and Sarmatians. When the trial is passed, the Elder Council gathers to make the final decision about the recruits future. When the recruit recaives all voters support, a ceremony is held welcoming the new member. If he doesint get all voters support, the gates will remain closed forever.

Laws
All Sarmatian laws below must not collide with the constitutional rules.

Wastelander lines of engagement:
* Armed wastelander, with a body protection.
* Armed wastelander which cannot be remembered or is communicating in unkown language.
* Is a known criminal.
* Suspicous behaivour, such as, hiding, looting or moving to close to a Sarmatian representative.

Wastelander lines of non-engagement:
* Unarmed and/or un-armored.
* Welding weapons, such as, Sledge hammer or Shovel.
* Old/young character, having less then 100 HP by pipboy durability calculation.

Elder Council lines of execution
*New regulation must have support of 70% of the Elders to pass.
*New Recruits must recaive 100% Elder meeting support to become a full-time member.

Ideology
Street Queens was founded by Wichura (present leader), Parano (retired scavenger) and Manero (member of Rogues gang) in Third Era of 2238 world. Idea was to help people start with game, give them shelter, few items if needed. This is still our main goal. Wasteland is harsh, they say. Well, we are the less harsh part.
Polish players heard of an Orphanage maybe - that's us. Nothing common with "The Orphans", totally different group.
We are not interested in "anti-PK" or "PK" rubbish, we are not interested in military allies and so on. Some gangs just don't shoot us on sight, as we don't. It's more than enough for Wasteland's standards.

"Organization"
-- random SQ member
One word: anarchy. There are people who might be consider as "elders of the tribe", they play for a long time as members of SQ, however we are not an army. No ranks, drill sergeants, orders or duties. Thank the Ratgod.

Unfortunately this affects our combat harmony sometimes. Many of us has wifes and/or kids, so using voice communication could cause serious consequences in our homes. We are using in-game radios and IRC channel to communicate instead. No families or relationships are harmed because of that.

Recruits
align="left"|« This is insane, I'm dying all the time. »
-- average fresh meat

We can't promise you immortality. We can't promise you won't die anymore. But we can do our best to give you advices and build recipes, some basic stuff, help with leveling your chars, caps for professions etc.
All new members are adding to our "kindergarten" base first. It's their business and a matter of trust if they want to see our other hideouts. Suprisingly many of them never comes back after week or so.
If you want to join us, feel free to enter IRC channel #sq, you may also visit our forum . Polish players only. No age requirements, we are not interested in marriages.

Activities
Except main idea of helping and spread noobism philosophy, we don't keep one way of playing. Some of us shoot people, some of us shoot mutant patrols or caravans, some of us craft all day long, others troll constantly in NCR's Bazaar. Anarchy means freedom too. Oh, we perform so called player-events sometimes, like Fight Club or Cannonball Race.

In the ancient, dark times, when powerful Science magic was working in Turn-Based mode, we used to be brave Spartan warriors, despising of armor or boomsticks. Many cowardly Persians took serious pain and item-damage these days.

The third Closed Beta-Test was the period between OBT 2 (Late 2008) and OBT 3 (August 15, 2009). During this private session, one had to ask cvet (developer of FOnline engine and of FOnline: The Life After) to be granted to play the game and see the game forums (located on www.fonline.ru at this time). Note that even if it was the third closed test of the FOnline engine, it was the first closed beta test of FOnline: 2238.

Setting
During OBT 2, three servers were available for players, all of the three had the same content, commonly known as vanilla FOnline, which would later become FOnline: The Life After. At the end of the beta test (December 2008), the Rotators was formed and they began creating their own mod with Cvet's help, called factions mod. Among the players that decided to join the CBT when OBT 2 ended, most of the Russian testers went on the mostly Russian server vanilla, and most of the English-speaking testers went on to test factions mod - which would later become FOnline: 2238.

Testers
Initial commitment
When OBT 2 ended, there was an announcement about OBT 3, that would take place "next summer" (2009). By then, most of the players just thought that they would come back six months later to play FOnline again. However, a lot of players couldn't just stop the game so fast and decided to join CBT, for different reasons: the will to help the first real multiplayer Fallout game and the will to keep playing it. A huge amount of these testers had been greatly addicted by FOnline during OBT 2 and really couldn't stop playing it as violently.

January 2009, the first CBT month, was more like an OBT (with lessen server population) than a CBT. Most of the testers were just keeping playing as they had done during OBT 2.

The weariness and the following routine
After a few months, maybe even in early February 2009, the majority of testers went weary: they had enough of playing FOnline with only few players, or they realised the development of a new game was a long work. One by one, most of them stopped connecting to FOnline or posting in the forum, and remained unseen until OBT 3 in the best cases.

With only a few players left, the changes were made more often; only committed testers posted in the forum and were able to perform accurate tests. During months a routine was followed, with changelogs, tests and bug reports, until August 15, 2008.

Testers list
Development steps
After the third OBT, The Rotators (at that point: Lisac, Scypior and Ghosthack) created a brand new game; they had to chose a name, to create a website - at first, a blog - and of course to bring new contents and to fight the new bugs brought with this new content! There was also a merge of the Fallout 1 and 2 locations into a bigger worldmap of whole California and a consolidation of location maps. For example, the different Vault City maps became a larger one, for both technical and gameplay reasons. A major part of the developers work in the first time was to translate the game interface from Russian to English. During OBT 2 (from which the mod was based on), the only non-Russian texts were those from the Master.dat file from the players, like the name of the different attack modes and the interface (Skills index, character sheet, etc.). Bringing the game into English was a very important and long step.

Lexx join the team primarily as a mapper in February or March 2009, he had then already created the worldmap interface and the Cathedral map that was used in previous vanilla betas.

Atom joined the team in April 2009, originally to help with rewriting the combat system.

Developers implemented a lot of new features; the first huge new feature was the introduction of faction bases. Brand new dialogues, characters and quests were also released. It is also during CBT 3 that town control, crafting and factions systems were implemented, and when the Fallout 1 towns (southern part of the map) were introduced.

For more information, see the old faction mods forum, http://www.fonline.ru/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=28.

Activities
Developers, as written above, coded new features, created maps, imported new graphics, wrote game manual, translated texts and fixed bugs.

Testers played the game, testing factions system for example, but also crafting system, town control, skills, weapons balance, safety level of guarded towns, strength of different NPCs, reputation system, etc

Lexx join the team primarily as a mapper in February or March, he had then already created the worldmap interface and the Cathedral map that was used in previous vanilla betas.

Fallout is a computer role-playing game developed by Black Isle Studios and produced by Tim Cain. The game was released in 1997. It's often considered as one of the best role-playing games ever, as it received many awards placing it among the top of the video games. Its main designers were Tim Cain, Leonard Boyarsky and Christopher Taylor.

Gameplay
Except for the combat, gameplay in Fallout is real-time. You can freely discuss with NPCs and achieve your quests, as well as travel across the worldmap. The levels, action points, hit points, skills and SPECIAL systems are pretty much the same as in FOnline: 2238, but the main difference - except the fact FOnline is a multiplayer game and Fallout a single player game - comes from the combat; combat in Fallout 1 & 2 are turn-based while the most used system in FOnline is real-time combat.

Background
The game takes place in a post-apocalyptic setting in the mid-22nd century, influenced mostly by the post-World War II nuclear paranoia of the 1950s, that is supposed to grow up until 2077, since the Cold War continues to dominate the American lifestyle well into the 21st century. This has been considered as an alternative gold age, with robots, energy weapons, nuclear-powered cars, but still old transistors and 1950s lifestyle. An increasing energy crisis caused by the depletion of the petroleum reserves all over over the world turned into a Resources War, with Chinese invasion to Alaska, for example. The timeline of this period is known, and led to the Great War, a total nuclear war.

Some of the United-States' inhabitants were able to save their lives by running into enormous shelters, the Vaults, made by the Vault-Tec company contracted by the USA's government. They were each able to support up to a thousand people. Except some of them such as Vault 8 (That would eventually turn into Vault City), they were never intended to work as they were supposed to : Vaults were rather a sinister social experiment, since the government had its own shelters - to, later, become the Enclave. One Vaults had no protection against radiations, another one had only young people in it, another one was intended to stay shut forever.

The game takes place in the mid-22nd century United Stats of America, that have turned into a post-apocalyptic wasteland, commonly known as the "Wasteland". The war and subsequent nuclear fallout have severely depopulated the country, leaving large expanses of abandoned property decaying from neglect. In addition, virtually all food and water is irradiated to some degree, and radiation exposure has caused mutation in all forms of life. Several factions have emerged, such as the Brotherhood of Steel, the Enclave, the Khans, the New California Republic state...
Plot
*Warning ! This section may contain spoilers.

The game begins in 2161 in Vault 13, home of Fallout 1's hero, the Vault Dweller. The water chip, responsible for water recycling in the Vault, has broke, and the protagonist is tasked to find another one. When he finally returns the chip, the Vault Dweller is then tasked to destroy the Mutants army that plans to destroy humanity. The Master is the final boss of the game, as the Mutants' leader. To achieve his goals, the Vault Dweller will have to destroy the Mariposa Military Base ran by Super Mutants and the Cathedral, but he can also join the Master and help him to destroy humanity by becoming himself a mutant, dipped in Mariposa's vats containing the Forced Evolutionary Virus that turns humans into Super Mutants. If the Vault Dweller destroys the Mutant threat, he can return to Vault 13. There he is told that he has changed too much and his return would negatively influence the citizens of the Vault. Thus he is rewarded with exile into the desert, for, in the Vault Overseer's eyes, the good of the vault : "I'm sorry. You are a hero... But you have to leave."

Ghosthack: /* Transporting mercs */

Mercs are mercenaries that you can buy for your own use. They will fight for you and guard a place if you tell them to do so. They are useful to guard a base, for example, or to help you to kill creatures.

Managing mercs
Recruiting
Mercs Recruiters are established in several towns. They are usually in a house, surrounded by some of their men. Talk to the Merc Recruiter to be able to buy him a merc. Once bought, a merc will belong to you until he dies, and will never ask you for more caps.

Interests
As you can hire a lot of different mercs, and give them a lot of weapons, it would be good to know exactly what you want to do with them. For example, guarding a base, you'll need both big guns - to make enemies falling - and snipers - ghouls snipers are awesome. Rockets may knock-out the enemy while snipers are shooting at him. To help you with getting experience, you'll rather need mercs using energy rifles, making damages but slowly, to let you able to kill the mobs.

Mercs are expensive and never respawn. Making them wandering with you might be dangerous for them, so it would be smarter to use them as guards - for your base, tent, caravan, whatever needs to be guarded. You can tell them to kill anyone but your faction's members, or to kill only your enemies or friends - record them on your faction's computer, etc.

Transporting mercs
Followers (both mercs and slaves, not players) formula is this one : (Charisma-1)/2 plus any additional perks that give you extra slots, like Magnetic Personality.

A merc guarding a place is not considered as following you, so you can have plenty of them - if they stay in the same place.

The buying
Please note that prices are changing all the time. If you buy a merc, buying the very same merc again will be a bit more expensive. All mercs are delivered with a brand new, fully-loaded weapon.

New Reno
New Reno's merc recruiter is in the main entrance area, opposite the Desperados casino. He will sell you human mercs (HtH, small guns, big guns, energy guns...). Those same mercs are also sold in NCR and Redding.
* Hand to Hand / Melee :
<div style="padding-left:3em;">
* 2000 caps : Punk woman with green Mohawk, wearing a leather jacket, holding a knife. 95 hp
* 3000 caps : Man wearing a metal armor, holding a sledgehammer. 95 hp.
* 3500 caps : Woman wearing a metal armor, holding a sledgehammer. 95 hp.
* 4000 caps : Black person, wearing a metal armor and holding a sledgehammer. HE CAN'T RUN. 90 hp.
</div>

* Small Guns :
<div style="padding-left:3em;">
* 5000 caps : Long-haired raider (Ian's skin)with a leather jacket, holding a 14mm pistol. 100 hp.
* 7000 caps : Man wearing a leather jacket, holding a 10mm SMG. Can use rifles too. 110 hp.
* 8000 caps : Woman wearing a leather jacket, holding an assault rifle. Can use rifles too. 115 hp.
</div>

* Big Guns :
<div style="padding-left:3em;">
* 15 000 caps : Man wearing a leather jacket and holding a laser rifle. 120 hp.
* 20 000 caps : Woman wearing a leather jacket and holding a minigun. 115 hp.
* 25 000 caps : Woman wearing a leather jacket and holding a rocket launcher. 115 hp.
</div>

* Energy Guns :
<div style="padding-left:3em;">
* 30 000 caps : Man wearing a metal armor, holding a Laser Pistol. 97 hp.
* 50 000 caps : Woman wearing a metal armor, and holding a laser rifle. 129 hp.
</div>

Redding
Redding's merc recruiter sells exactly the same mercs as the NCR's and New Reno's one (See above). He is located opposite the Malamute Saloon (in main street).

New California Republic
NCR's merc recruiter sells exactly the same mercs as the Redding's and New Reno's one (See above). She is located in a white building, before the main city gate.

Broken Hills
The merc recruiter is located next to the bank. He sells some very useful mercs : Super Mutants. They are particularly slow, and ugly, but they are good though.
<div style="padding-left:3em;">
* 40 000 caps : Unarmed Super Mutant, that will use his first. Quite not a bargain. 300 hp.
* 75 000 caps : Super Mutant holding a minigun. 300 hp.
* 85 000 caps : Super Mutant holding a rocket launcher. 450 hp.
</div>

Gecko
Gecko's merc recruiter is located near the main entrance, in a building on the left. He will sell you ghouls mercs, and among them is the popular sniper ghoul.
<div style="padding-left:3em;">
* ~240 caps : Generic ghoul holding a spear. 100 hp.
* ~9414 caps : Sniper ghoul, holding an Sniper Rifle. 60 hp.
</div>

Junktown
Junktown's merc seller is in front off Gizmo's casino, with his dogs around him.
<div style="padding-left:3em;">
* 208 caps : A dog. 34 hp.</div>

Klamath
A children in Trapper Town (West) will sell you his dogs. Beware, you can buy some tougher and less expensive ones in Junktown (See above).
<div style="padding-left:3em;">

FOnline: The Life After (Commonly abbreviated as TLA) was the very first game based on the FOnline Engine. It was developed by Cvet, who is also the main coder of the FOnline Engine. It is almost entirely in Russian.

History
* November to December, 2008 : TLA's Open Beta Test 2 happens.
* January, 2009 : Closed Beta Test.
* August 15, 2009 : Open Beta Test 3 starts.

Main differences with FOnline: 2238
FOnline: 2238 is another game based on the FOnline Engine, and TLA has many differences with it.

On FOnline: The Life After...
* Game is in Russian, which means most of the players there speak Russian or in a Cyrillic-based font, including quests and dialogues, that can hardly be done.
* Gear is easier to get - including Armors, Weapons, Ammo...
* You can't buy a base or build a faction.
* Crafting system is less evolved than in FOnline: 2238.
* There is no professions system.
* You can't build a tent.

Town Control (TC for short or Town Guarding which is another alias) is a feature of the game that is only available for player-controlled factions (Gangs that possess a base). It gives them the ability to take control of one of the six so called un-guarded towns in the north of the worldmap.

How does it work ?
During every real time (RT) day, there's one hour (RT) allocated for each of the six towns (Modoc, Klamath, Redding, Broken Hills, Den and Gecko) when it is "vulnerable" to being taken over. During this time, factions will fight for control.

Seizing control
To gain control in a town, you need to speak to the leader or chief of the town. You also need to make sure that you have a few gang members nearby, to "impress" upon the leader that you are capable of protecting them. After this, a countdown (Of around 20 minutes) will be displayed globally. You need to hold the town for this time, to actually gain control. When the countdown timer has gone to 00:00, your faction will be shown in the Pipboy as controlling the town.

When the hour is over, the town is protected from being taken over for another 24 hours.

Reward
The reward (10 000-20 000 caps) is given after the takeover period has elapsed (the hour) and can be found in a special container that only the controlling faction may open - remember to close it, too. Ask the town leader if you can't find it.

Reputation affects
The Town Control does not affect reputation, but if your gang is hated in the town, you won't be able to control it. The same goes if you can't talk to the mayor, due to your low reputation, intelligence or charisma, or if you are a slaver.
