"The skill of muscle-propelled ranged weapons. Throwing knives, spears, and grenades"

Considered as imbalanced by many players, as there are relatively low requirements to be an effective grenadier. Here they are:
*Average strength to maintain range.
*150% in throwing skill is pretty much enough to hit anybody within grenade range (also One Hander trait helps a lot)
*Good amount of action points.
*Lots of plasma grenades to spend.
Investing some skillpoints in this skill is a good addition for the most big guns users.

The Guardians is a small "Anti-PK" faction, mainly consisting of Finnish and German players.

Brief Description
Although there were many faction players who coined the faction itself in some way the main objective never changed during time. The Guardians are some kind of Anti-PK faction and rather help newcomers then to shoot them without any reasons. Some members also brought new helpful things into the whole community.

History
The first establishment of this faction happened about three wipes ago. Before that the finnish and the german speaking people had their own groups. Most german people at that time were in a faction called Far Go Traders and some of them played that game since the second (or even first) beta test. At a time when the old Far Go Trader faction was dying finnish and german players first met and helped each other out a bit. As members vanished away and only some few were left both groups merged into The Guardians.
The next wipe came and after that the whole faction was reborn again. New rules, some experience and some new members helped to let it raise quick and to become a bigger gang. At some time after the last wipe The Guardians consisted of about more then 20 active members.

Unfortunatly nowadays the faction is shrinking again. People lose interest in the game itself or have to manage their life a bit more. At the moment there are still about 10 active members all in all.

Q: The game is very slow, and it slows down when I open character window
A: You can try to open file FOnline.cfg in notepad and add following line:
SoftwareSkinning=1

Q: When I login, the whole game is in russian and all NPCs are speaking in russian, regardless of what I do !
A: You are logged onto the russian sever, you need to open up FOconfig in your FOnline folder and type in the server data for 2238 in the "Net" tab. IP: 94.23.237.127 and Port: 2238.

Q: I'm stuck in Vault Eight's 3rd floor right now, the elevator doesn't move / I'm stuck elsewhere in the game, what now ?
A: It can happen sometimes. Just get out of the elevator, then get in again. Worst case scenario: contact one of the admins on IRC - if he's available, he'll get you out. If nobody answers on IRC, send PM, but do NOT start a new thread.

Q: Is it possible to give every starting character an awareness perk (or any other perk/feature in general) ?
A: It is. But we want to keep the game as close to the originals as it gets.

Q: Is there a level cap? And if yes how high ?
A: Yes, the level cap is set to lvl 21 at the moment.

Q: I wanna craft/buy/steal/find advanced hi-tech equipment. How do I get Power Armor or Gauss Rifle ?
A: Advanced items will be given on special occasions in game, usually by Admins or Game Masters (GMs). The alternative is to connect to The Life After server if you can read russian.

Q: I wish to delete my character to save server space since I'm using a new one...
A: Simply use command ~deleteself <password>. After you logout and your character dissapears (it will take three minutes), the account will be deleted.

Q: I forgot my password/My account is screwed up/I've got some other problem with my account ?
A: Go to irc.forestnet.org, join the official game channel, i.e. #2238 and ask op for help. Ops are marked with @ character, except KoMaP who is an IRCop.

Q: Who are the devs? Whom should I send PM (emergency only, please!) ?
A: Lexx, lisac2k, scypior, Ghosthack and Atom. If nobody answers, it probably means your issue is being worked on, not important or already solved. Do NOT bother the devs, one PM is enough.

Q: How can I get music into the game ?
A: Copy the /music/ folder from your Fallout 2 installation or CD and paste it in your FOnline Client /data/sound/ folder. That's it. Now you should be able to hear music ingame.

Q: Where can I get a list of all Professions Trainers ?
A: Here, until we update additional notes file.

Q: How do I make a tent ?
A: Use science on 10 brahmin hides. Visit the tent article for more informations.

Q: How do I talk in RED CAPS ?
A: This is called shouting, type /s before your message or hold down ctrl before sending message. Also /r for radio if you have one or hold down shift. /w for whisper or hold alt.

Q: How do I get a shovel and what do I do with it ?
A: Talk to a brahmin salesmen or a dirty herdsmen standing near some brahmin in a pen (almost one in every city). He will give you a shovel. Equip it and use it on shit for exp. Return to him after to receive your payment and lose your shovel : This is called shit shoveling.

Q: How can I check basic in-game commands ?
A: Press F1 to check newest in-game commands.

Q: How do I open a new bank account ?
A: You must go in some town and go to a bank, then ask banker to open an account (You need 100 caps to open it).

History
The first establishment of this faction happened about two wipes ago.

After the above mentioned wipe the community grew from day to day and their members went through thick and tin with each other but still the wasteland didn't took much notice about the faction itself.

People loose interest in the game itself or have to manage their life a bit more. At the moment there are still about 10 active members all in all.
He met Jacob, a power-armoured Brotherhood of Steel knight that had sworn to kill all mutants. They fight a day or two, then became friends, as none of them was able to kill the other. Wandering together, they attracted a bunch of refugees from the war, and ghouls escaped from the Necropolis slaughter. They eventually founded Broken Hills, a settlement where every race was living in peace, exploiting the uranium mine there.

Description
As Broken Hills is a bit far from usual routes, players don't really go there ; there are also not much things of interest in town. Eventually the city became a battlefield for all the players that like to fight, since they are able to seize the town control there, but also to flee in the streets and take out large groups of players, if they are skilled enough.

Activities
* Broken Hills contains quests.
* You can trade with merchants there.
* The Town Control system, implemented in Broken Hills, makes this town a battlefield at the right time.
* You can rent hotel rooms there, in the Residential area.
* You can be hired there, to lift caravan boxes.
GUI

GUI is an acronym and stands for Graphic User Interface. It allows people to interact with game client in Fonline by pressing buttons on it or by watching on it. A Fonline GUI offers graphical icons, and visual indicators, to fully represent the information and actions available to a user. The actions are usually performed through watching the game chat and finishing turn/combat in Turn-Based mode.

Standard Fonline GUI

А Standard Fonline GUI offers to a user following info:
* In-game chat
* Changing weapon/item slots
* Available action points
* Current Health Points (HP)
* Current Armor Class (AC)
* Map - Motion detector button
* Character button
* Inventory button
* Pip-Boy button
* Fix-Boy button
* Skilldex button
* Turn/Combat End button (in Combat Mode only)

User could interact with any button by pressing it on virtual GUI using a mouse or using a keyboard.

Custom GUI's

Currently, there is quite a few of modified interfaces available for every Fonline player. This happens because of insufficient number of available info about interface modding. This becomes the reason of complexity in the development. Nevertheless, there is some interfaces made without of any guides. The following is a list of those interfaces:
# 1024x768 Interface mod 1.0 by WHINE Team
# Minimal Interface by WHINE Team
# Sharp Interface mod by Graf
# HUD Interface mod by Warger
# Printed Circuit Board interface by gurglak
# Combat Interface by Graf
# Fallout 2 Style Interface by Reconite
# Futuristic Combat Interface by seb910

Creating your own Fonline GUI

To create a new graphic user interface you'll need - lots of patience and time, some talent and some skill in graphic editors.
First of all, to start making a new interface, you should make an image, which will be shown as GUI in the game. It could be maximum as big, as the screen dimension is, but usually it is set at 800x120, 1024x120 or 1280x120, depending on the interface resolution. Setting its height on the size of your chat could save you a lot of time.
Any file could have any name, but it should be written in default.ini, to let the game recognize it as file according to game.

After making such image, you should also add button, diode and other graphic files(every button have its own image).To make sure that you did everything correctly, you better download some custom GUI and compare it.

The most difficult thing in modding isn't making graphic files, but working with .ini

Rules for setting coordinates in ini-file:
# Button coordinates usually (if different isn't specified by command type - number) have four coordinates, which are divided by spaces. First two numbers mean distance from left top corner of your button to general top left corner of your GUI. Other two numbers mean distance from right bottom corner to left top corner of your GUI.
# If you want to turn-off any button, then you should set it coordinates to "0 0 0 0" (without quotes)
# It is best to use some simple graphic editor to determine coordinates. Paint or Paint.NET will do.

So, here we go, following is the list of ini-commands, which would help you to make your own interface:

Bases

Nexxos:

Bases are the core of FOnline: 2238. It was, at the very beginning of FOnline, the first difference between the two servers. At that time, FOnline: 2238 was still called Factions Mod. By taking a base, your gang gets a faction name, a safe place to store its stuff and a computer to add or remove players from the team. That last advantage is one of the main differences with a simple tent, for example. Faction bases will appear in blue on the worldmap.

If base's terminal isn't used by a member at least once every four weeks, the base and the gang name will be removed.

To buy a base
WARNING: a faction can have only one base, if you buy a new one, previous base will disappear with ALL items you left there.

The trade
You can buy your bases in Redding, Klamath and Junktown. Each time, the base seller is a trapper into the town's main bar. Bases cost 30 000 caps, 50 000 caps, 70 000 caps, 130 000 caps or 500 000 caps. Talk to the trapper while a few members of your gang (Two or three) are arrowed on you and very close to the trapper, then tell him what kind of base you wish - depending on price. Clicking on the "say" button, you will be able to write you own faction name (It has to be on that list). Well done, your faction is made, your gang has a base that you can see on the worldmap!

Particular case : Members of another faction
If you are already part of a faction (Like Vault City, the Mordinos, a players gang, etc), you won't be able to buy a base. You have to resign first from their faction and then try to buy a base or getting invited in some players base.

Base management
Add a member
You have to be the leader of the faction or an important member to do so :
* "Manage members".
* "Invite new member".
* Select "Say", and write the name of the player you want to add. He has to be logged in, and when you'll have wrote his name, he will be "Invited". "Invited" players can't see your base on the worldmap but can't be attacked by the mercs guarding your base either.

All this being done, you have to bring the new member to your base. He will use the computer and accept your invitation : From that time, he will be a member of your faction and will see the base on the worldmap.

Promote/Demote
You have to be of an higher rang than the player you want to promote/demote.
* "Manage members".
* "Promote member".
* Select "Say" and add the name of the player you want to promote.
Or :
* "Manage members".
* "Browse members list".
* Browse the list and select "promote" when you are on the right page.

Setting a new leader
To set a new leader, the actual leader has to resign (he can be invited again right after this). When he resigns, the highest promoted member will be set leader instead. If there are more than one player at the highest rank (Right before leader), one of them is chosen randomly.

Protect your base
You can put some mercs or slaves in your base to defend it. They will kill any enemy entering your base (Either because of a betrayal or a successful tracking). Tell them to guard the place, and to shoot at anyone who isn't a member of your faction.

Available bases maps
Cave
* Cost: 30 000 caps
* Towns: Klamath, Redding, Junktown
The Cave, really easy to defend but a bit small. It's the only base map divided into two parts : One part is the cliff side, with the entrance of the cave on one side - an empty desert map - and the other part is the inside of the cave itself. It contains the usual crafting tools (Workbench, still), a brahmin pen and only 3 lockers. It's not a very good base since Depot has more containers and is sold at the same price, but cave has one advantage : It's really, really easy to defend it, because you just have to put mercs or slaves on the tiny cave entrance. The cave is the Only base you can purchase from all three of the base sellers, thus it is available from all three cities and their respective base seller in each. Because of this, the Cave is one of the most varied bases around as it can be found almost anywhere for a measly 30 000 caps.

Depot
* Cost: 30 000 caps
* Towns: Klamath
Depot is a small outpost, with 3 lockers, 2 desks (one looks like a workbench), 2 shelves, and 2 table. 9 containers total when you consider it also has a workbench with the standard toolboard for small storage above it and a still. There's also a brahmin pen containing one brahmin. On the map, you can find wood and flint (does not replenish). It's a good and cheap base, and the spawn is straight below the door and chairs outside. Guards can be present simply to the far right, near the trees, and they will have the small spawn area in their sight. Base location seems to typically be somewhere West of Klamath. The Depot is sold in Klamath, is the same price as the Cave, yet offers considerably more than a simple Cave. Depot can be purchased from the base seller, Smiley his name is, in Klamath, located in the bar and hotel at the Main entrance.

Scrapheap
* Cost: 70 000 caps
* Towns: Redding
Scrapheap is a popular base costing 70 000 caps. It is larger than Depot or Cave. Its location is often between Redding and Broken Hills. It contains 5 lockers, a workbench, a still and a brahmin pen. Thus offering one of the lowest resources when compared to other bases, with the Cave being on similar grounds yet having a bigger brahmin pen and more brahmin than both Depot and Cave. Scrapheap is the specialty base sold from the Redding base seller, who is located in the Malamute Saloon, which is above the Doctors building.

Outpost
* Cost: 130 000 caps
* Towns: Junktown
The outpost is one of the most expensive maps : It will cost you 130 000 caps! Very easy to defend because it is surrounded by walls, it has three buildings and two tents and is one of the best base maps. Its location on the worldmap will often be between NCR and Junktown. It has a dozen of lockers, a workbench, a still,and you can find there fruits and fibers. By far, the unique resources offered solely by this base make it one of the best choices, as it has a monopoly on fruit and fibers that no other base has, and also has the largest brahmin pen possible with many in it, meaning many a new char can shovel his poo in absolute safety. Outpost base is the specialty base sold from the Junktown base seller, who is located in the very first building after entering Junktown gates.

Trapper Camp
* Cost: 50 000 caps
* Towns: Klamath

Gasstation Camp
* Cost: 50 000 caps
* Towns: Redding

Old Bunker
* Cost: 500 000 caps, base available via Abandoned Bunker quest
* Towns: Unknown, base available via Abandoned Bunker quest
The bunker is by far the most expensive base. While the outside part of the map is very difficult to defend, an enemy will have a very difficult time getting to the inside of a well-guarded bunker. It has fifteen lockers, a crate near its still, two computers that contain electronic parts, a waterpump, and three lockers in the walls that are difficult to see. The room that has four lockers in it is locked with a yellow keycard, making it easier to store your valuables in the event of a raid for a total of 19 storage containers plus a workbench. Besides its massive amount of storage space, the front of the base has rocks that can be used to mine iron ore and minerals, making this by far the best base money can buy. Oddly enough, the base has no brahmin pen.
New Reno was built on the ashes of Reno, Nevada. The town was spared from the atomic fire during the war, but indeedly fell on the dark side of life... As law, rules and police had been banned by the atomic war, a few mobsters families struggled to get the power on that town, and are still struggling to get it. These families are the Wrights - the weakest family, mainly selling alcohol, and the only to know about Sierra Army Depot, the Mordinos - a family spreading jet over the wasteland, knowing quite well the Raiders and owning the Desperados casino, the Salvatores - a family that sometimes secretly deals with the Enclave and runs the Salvatores Bar - and the Bishops, the second most powerful family in town, right after the Wrights, that own the Shark Club casino. Drugs, alcohol and prostitution made New Reno a dark, smelly and gambling town.

Description
The main advantage of New Reno is that the town is located in the middle of the world map. However, its main problem is that it's not a guarded town, so killing in Reno is quite easy. There are even campers that stay near the exit grids to shoot at anyone appearing, without taking any risk. The town may attract a lot of people, but as it is not a town that is part of the town control, large groups avoid it. Usually, you'll find there bluesuits achieving their quests, or small player killers. A few stores are opened in the city, like the Cat's Paw brothel, the Golden Globes porn studios and the Jungle Gym boxing club.
