A character's Carry weight defines the amount of equipment they can carry, it is measured in grams. Your character's carry weight is determined by their strength. To increase your carry weight without modifying your characters strength, you can take the Pack Rat perk or the Strong Back perk. These both will allow you to carry more equipment. The maximum carry weight achievable in the game is 196 kg.

Weight limit base formula
Your character's base maximum carry weight is calculated using the following formula:
* (25+(Strength*25))/2.2. An average character with a Strength equal to 5 will be able to carry 67 kilograms. A character with 10 Strength will be able to carry 124 kilograms.

Small Frame Trait
If your character has the Small Frame trait, then your base carry weight calculated as follows:
* (25+(Strength*15))/2.2 kilograms. An average character with a Strength equal to 5 will be able to carry 45 kilograms.
Penalties
If your character manages to pick up more equipment than their carry weight (this can happen often while mining or crafting), your character will only be able to walk. If you carry too much over your maximum carry limit, you will not be able to move at all.

Note that sometimes your current carry weight and maximum carry weight will be equal, but you will still be slowed down. This is because your carry weight in your inventory is shown in kilograms, rounding to the nearest whole number and does not show the number of additional grams you may be carrying. This causes your weight to appear to be lower than it actually ism. For example, your inventory may show 150/150 kilograms, however the weight of all equipment you're carrying could be 150.4/150 kilograms.

At first, you need to visit an FLC bank. The FLC article tells you the locations of the banks, for example the bank in New California Republic, which is one of the most populated towns. Plus, it's a guarded town, which means you can't (let's say: it's rare) be attacked in the city, and lose your precious cash after a withdrawal.
* Find the bank (NCR: In front of the Sheriff's office).
* Talk to the banker. Easy, isn't it?

Since it's your first time visiting this bank, you will need to open an account.
* Select the dialogue option : "I want to open an account".
* The banker will tell you that to open an account, you need to pay a one-time fee: 100 caps. Pay him.

Congratulations! You now have an account in that town's FLC. Now remember that accounts are particular to one city. Even if you open an account in NCR, you will still have to create one in Vault City or Broken Hills to use theirs.

Deposit
Making a deposit in an FLC bank is easy and safe. Once your cash is given to the banker, nobody can access it. There are variable interest rates in banks, seeming to be around the 0.1% - 0.3% mark (unconfirmed how frequently this amount is compounded and added to your account, nor how frequently the interest rate changes. Your money will very slowly grow over time.

* Talk to the banker, tell him : "The account is in my name".
* Tell him "I want to use your banking services" and choose to make a deposit.
* Use the say box (On the right) to input the number of caps you want to put in safe - as in the picture. The amount of caps you are depositing need to be in your inventory or held in one of your characters active slots. Click Confirm, then your caps are safely stored in your account.

Withdrawal
* To take back your money, talk to the banker.
* Instead of a deposit, choose to make a withdrawal, and input (still using the say box) the amount of caps you want to withdraw from your account. The caps will then be added to your inventory, watch out for thieves in the banks!.

Joint accounts
Joint accounts allow a group of players to all withdraw and deposit money into the same account.
Creating a joint account
* Create a normal account first (100 caps, see above).
* Make a deposit of 10 000 caps.
* Ask to check your account balance : You will see some informations, and the type of your account : Normal account.
* Choose the dialogue option "Can I upgrade this account to a joint account ?".
* The banker will tell you that you need to pay 10 000 caps, taken from your bank account, to upgrade. Confirm.
* Your account is now a joint account.

Managing joint accounts access
From here you can add or remove players who have access to this bank around. You will have to remember or note down those players with access to the account, since the banker provides no list of them.

* Go in your account balance.
* Choose "I want to change who can access this account.".
* As seen in the picture, you will be able to add or remove access. Choose one of the two options.
* Write the name of the person to add or remove using the say box. This player has to be online.
* That person will be able to access this account by talking to the banker.

A tent is a small personal hideout that you can create in almost any random encounter map in the wasteland. Items stored inside the tent are safe, as long as you don't bring any other player there, which makes it a must have for any character who has no other way to store items safely.

Your Tent will be deleted automatically if no player visits it within a 4 week period. All items at the tent will be permanently lost.

How to make a tent
* Collect 10 brahmin hides, by buying them from merchants or killing and looting wild brahmins.
* Enter a random location on desert (the map should be empty with no hostile or non-hostile NPCs).
* Open inventory and use science skill on the brahmin hides. Do not put the hides on the ground; it will not work that way. Hold down your left mouse button on the hides in your inventory to open the drag down the menu and choose the right option to open the Skilldex menu (The picture of the vault mascot's face). Then choose Science skill. A message will be displayed, and the map will be turned into a tent map. If you have any followers with you, they will also gain access to that tent. Parked cars will also stay with you when you make a tent.
** Make sure no one is with you in the encounter (Any other player with you in the encounter, who is arrowed on you and following you, will also have access to the tent on the world map, so make sure only other players who you want to have access to the tent are present).
** If your character has a tent already, the old tent will be destroyed (deleted) and all items left there will be lost. You can have only one tent per character.

If your character has the Ranger perk, building a tent yields a Safe House with a workbench instead of a standard tent with a crate.

The Campfire
The small fire pit at any standard tent can be upgraded to a Campfire by using 3 Wood on the fire pit, which changes it into a work place where you can make metal parts from iron ore, and gunpowder from minerals. This is very handy for players who work in a nearby mine, since these materials can be processed in safety at the tent and their weight gets largely reduced. This feature is useful as it provides an easy refinery otherwise found only at a Workbench.

Shared tents
As said above, if you make a tent and there are other players on the same map that are tagged on you, they will gain access to that tent and will see it on the world map. However, the tent will still belong to the player who created it.

If player X creates a tent, and player Y has access to it (i.e. was there in the encounter when player X created the tent), Y can still create a tent and have access to both, however, X won't be able to create another tent without deleting his first one. Players can have access to an unlimited amount of tents provided they are not their founder.

If the account of a tent creator is deleted for any reason, any other players who had access to that tent will retain their access and the tent will remain, provided it is visited at least once every 4 weeks so it is not deleted due to inactivity.

Extra Information
Nobody can enter your tent unless they follow you (or anyone else with access to your tent), so take care. People like to arrow you and follow you, and if you're not cautious and don't look at who you're carrying, you may introduce enemies into your tent. But if you're not carrying people into your tent, then stuff stored inside is totally safe. (Note, if someone has arrowed on you and follows you into the wasteland, you can remove them from your party by holding your left click down on their player name and selecting the remove from party option)

Your tent has a crate container with limited storage space, but the tent map itself may contain an infinite amount of stuff, since you can harmlessly put stuff on the ground. Gangs may use tents to store fighting gear or their fresh loot.

It is common practice to arrange large amounts of items in rows on the ground outside a tent. The tent has only one container which has limited space, and some tent owners prefer to keep the container free of clutter. Dropping items on the ground also provides a quick way of visualizing which items have been collected.
Items dropped outside the tent will never disappear unless the tent is deleted due to lack of activity as mentioned above (no players visit it for four weeks), or replaced (the tent's owner builds a new tent).

The only players who are able to access a tent are those who are there in the encounter when the tent is created. If the owner creates a new tent, anyone who had access to the old tent will NOT have access to the new one, unless they are again in the encounter with the tent creator.

Limits
*Unlike a faction base you cannot modify which other players have access to your tent. As stated previously, the only people that gain access are those who are following you and are in the encounter during tent creation.

*The tent only has one small storage container.

*Tents are only useful as a personal hideout. They have the advantage not to require a faction name, however.

*Tents are removed after 4 weeks if no player visits them.

Bases are the core of FOnline: 2238. They were, at the very beginning of FOnline, the first difference between the two servers (2238 and TLA). At that time, FOnline: 2238 was still called Factions Mod. By buying a base, your gang gets a faction name, a safe place to store its stuff and a computer to add or remove players from the gang, which is the main difference from the simple tent. Faction bases will appear in blue on the worldmap.

If base's terminal isn't used by a member at least once every four weeks, the base and the gang name will be removed.

To buy a base
Outdated

The Trade
You can buy a base in Redding, Klamath or Junktown. At each location, the base seller is a trapper into the town's main bar. Bases cost 30 000 caps, 50 000 caps, 70 000 caps, 130 000 caps or 500 000 caps. Talk to the trapper while a few members of your gang (Two or three) are arrowed on you and very close to the trapper, then tell him what kind of base you wish to purchase - depending on price. Clicking on the "say" button will allow you to write you own faction name (The chosen name has to be on that list). Well done, your faction is made and your gang has a base that you can see on the worldmap!

DIY Bases
Previously, you could only create a faction and purchase a base by talking to a trapper in Redding, Klamath or Junktown. The base would then be spawned in The Middle of Nowhere.

A new method of creating bases is a DIY base.
If you gather 10 000 caps and go to construction a foreworker (in NCR, VC or SF) with two other players, you are able to create a DIY base.
You can also pick a faction name (if you are buying a base for the first time) and once the purchase is made, you get construction worker in fancy red shirt who follows you to your base location. Try to quickly move to exit grid, some players will attempt to kill the construction worker if you are not careful. Sometimes, the construction worker may disappear from your base or tent. If this does happen, you must leave your tent or base and enter the world map and wait for the worker to join you, usually it takes several attempts.
* foreworker in NCR

* foreworker in Vault City

* foreworker in San Francisco

With the construction worker in party you can go to your desired base location. Next, you enter an empty encounter (much like you would for creating a Tent) and tell worker you want to have a base constructed here. Then you get location named "Building Site" on your world map:

You can view the progress board to see the required amount of materials for base construction:

After gathering all of the required materials, you can talk to the construction worker again, he will ask you about a base name (not bound in any way to the faction name, the base name only for recognizing this base in the terminal - Brand New Terminal services all faction bases from one spot), then the Building Site turns into the fully constructed base you worked so hard for. The Construction worker will now disappear, as he has no use any more.

Buying additional bases with the same faction leader does not require having two other players in your party and you do not have to give the faction name again.

There are four types of bases to pick from:

{|border="1" cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" align="center" class="sortable"
After buying a worker and after constructing a base you need to set Hideout clearance in base's terminal according to your needs. This allows certain players to see the base. Sometimes a newly added player will need to relog before being able to see the base on the world map.

Note: Clearances are automatically reset when the construction site changes into a base.

Particular case : Member of another faction
If you are already part of a faction (Like Vault City, the Mordinos, a players gang, etc), you won't be able to buy a base. You have to leave your previous faction first before you can create or be invited to another faction's base.

Base management
Add a member
You have to be the leader of the faction or an important member to add a new faction member:
* "Manage members".
* "Invite new member".
* Select "Say", and write the name of the player you want to add. Once you have written the name and pressed enter, they will be "Invited". "Invited" players can't see your base on the worldmap but can't be attacked by the mercs guarding your base either.

After a player is added as member of your faction, you will have to escort them to your base. They will then use the base's computer and accept your invitation : From that time onward, they will be a member of your faction and will see the base on the worldmap.

Add a friend
You have to be the leader of the faction or an important member to do so :
* "Browse the database".
* "Create new record for non-member".
* Select "Say", and write the name of the player you want to add. Once you have written the name and pressed enter, a record will be created for this name. You then set the "Status" of that record the "Friend".
You will then have to bring the new friend to your base. From that time onward, he will be a friend of your faction and will see the base on the worldmap. Upon entering your base location the player will recieve a message in the chat window confirming that they are considered a friend at the base and can freely return to the location.
If a friend is killed at the base for whatever reason, they will no longer see the base on the world map. To re-add them, simply bring them back to the base location, you do not need to add them as friend again.

To change the status of a record once it is entered, simply browse through the database.

Promote/Demote
You have to be of an higher rank than the player you want to promote/demote.
* "Manage members".
* "Promote member".
* Select "Say" and add the name of the player you want to promote.
Or :
* "Manage members".
* "Browse members list".
* Browse the list and select "promote" when you are on the right page.

Setting a new leader
To set a new leader, the actual leader has to resign (he can be invited back to the faction after resigning). After the leader's resignation, the highest promoted member will be set as the new leader. If there are more than one player at the highest rank (Right before leader), one of them is chosen randomly.

Protect your base
You can put some mercs or slaves in your base to defend it. They will kill any enemies entering your base (An enemy could enter your base if a faction member betrays your faction and leads them there deliberatly, or if they sneak and tag on a faction member and follow them back to the base). Tell your [[mercs] or slaves to guard the base, and to shoot at anyone who isn't a member of your faction.

Available bases maps
Outdated

Cave
* Cost: 30 000 caps
* Towns: Klamath, Redding, Junktown
The Cave, really easy to defend but a bit small. It is divided into two parts: the cliff side with a cave entrance on an empty desert map, and inside of the cave itself. It contains the usual crafting tools (Workbench, still), a brahmin pen and only 3 lockers. It's not a cost effective base since Depot has more containers and is sold at the same price, but the cave does has one advantage: it's very easy to defend because you just have to put mercs or slaves in front of the tiny cave entrance. The cave is the only base you can purchase from all three of the base sellers. Because of this, the Cave is one of the most varied bases around as it can be purchased almost anywhere for a measly 30k caps.

Depot
* Cost: 30 000 caps
* Towns: Klamath
Depot is a small outpost, with 3 lockers, 2 desks (one looks like a workbench), 2 shelves, and 2 table. 9 containers total when you consider it also has a workbench with the standard toolboard for small storage above it and a still. There's also a brahmin pen containing one brahmin. On the map, you can find wood and flint (does not replenish). It's a good and cheap base, and the spawn is straight below the door and chairs outside. Guards can be placed to the far right of the spawn, near the trees. They will have the small spawn area directly in their sight. Base locations seem to typically be somewhere to the West of Klamath. The Depot is sold in Klamath, and is the same price as the Cave, yet offers considerably more in terms of storage space. Depot can be purchased from the base seller Smiley in Klamath. He is located in the bar and hotel at the Main entrance.

Scrapheap
* Cost: 70 000 caps
* Towns: Redding
Scrapheap is a popular base costing 70 000 caps. It is larger than Depot or Cave. Its location is often between Redding and Broken Hills. It contains 5 lockers, a workbench, a still and a brahmin pen. The Scrapheap offers a low amount of resources when compared to other bases, with the Cave being on similar grounds yet having a bigger brahmin pen and more brahmin than both Depot and Cave. Scrapheap is Redding's specialty base. It is sold from the Redding base seller who is located in the Malamute Saloon, which is above the Doctors building.

Outpost
* Cost: 130 000 caps
* Towns: Junktown
A pre-built outpost is the most expensive base, second only to the bunker. It is very easy to defend because it is surrounded by walls, and has three buildings plus two tents, and is probably the most popular base amongst most players. Its location on the worldmap will often be between NCR and Junktown. It has 10 containers, a workbench, a still, a water pipe, a well, fibers plants, and a larger brahmin pen with more brahmins than other bases. New characters can shovel more poo in peace. It's a large map with plenty of space on the ground to lay out rows of important items. The Outpost base is the speciality base sold from the Junktown base seller, who is located in the very first building after entering Junktown via the south gate.

Trapper Camp
* Cost: 50 000 caps
* Towns: Klamath
* Car parking slots: 10

Gasstation Camp
* Cost: 50 000 caps
* Towns: Redding

Old Bunker
* Cost: 500 000 caps, base available via Abandoned Bunker quest
* Towns: Unknown, base available via Abandoned Bunker quest
The bunker is by far the most expensive base. While the outside part of the map is very difficult to defend, an enemy will have a very difficult time getting to the inside of a well-guarded bunker. It has fifteen lockers, a crate near its still, two computers that contain electronic parts, four private rooms in the back with showers, a waterpipe, a broken Mr Handy robot, a broken elevator, and wall safes that are often overlooked. The room with four lockers is locked with a yellow pass key, making it safer to store your valuables in the event of a raid, for a total of 23 storage containers plus a workbench. It houses a large conference room with a big-screen video display toward the back for those important meetings. Besides its massive amount of storage space, the mouth of the bunker opens into a small mine with iron ore and minerals, making this by far the best base money can buy. Oddly enough, the base has no brahmin pen.
