Shit shovelling is a good way to earn caps.
Go to a city and find a brahmins pen, then ask the herdsman if he needs help. Ask him a shovel, go clean some brahmin shits, and then talk to the herdsman again. Each brahmin shit shovelled will give you 10 xp and 10 caps.
