Moderate science skill is needed to craft Metal Parts, Gunpowder and Alloys. In addition, the Science skill is needed for several professions.

In practical use, the science skill determines what resources, if any, you will receive from disassembling weapons. Lower level weapons (9mm Mauser, BB Gun) yield sometimes Junk, and often nothing. Upper tier weapons, however, can return Metal Parts and even Alloys. You will always receive 20 XP from disassembling an item. Use Science on an item to disassemble it. You can't disassemble a weapon during a fight.
