Charisma is needed to transport people on worldmap (Total charisma-1 = Number of players that can be transported) or to buy and manage slaves and NPCs. The number of NPC followers you can have is based on the formula (Charisma-1)/2, rounded up. Charisma also allows you better rewards in most of the quests.
