OBT 2

The second Open Beta-Test was the period between CBT 2 (Late 2008) and CBT 3 (From February to August 2009). It was the first open beta session that attracted a lot of players in FOnline; as previous OBT had lasted only a few days and its players were mostly Russians or active NMA members.

Setting

Only one version of the game existed at this time, since rotators had not started to develop FOnline: 2238. Three servers (hosted by cvet, LLITiF and Tabl01d, the latter would host the first version of FOnline: 2238 few months later) were available, but all with the same content, called vanilla FOnline, that would six months later become FOnline: The Life After.

Due to the length of this beta-test (from November 2009 to December 12, 2009) it attracted a lot more players than the previous OBT (that lasted one week), partly because NMA members had enough tome to share the information with their different countries.

Server content

Anyone studying OBT 2 should always remember this simple fact - it was basically Fallout 2 ported to a multiplayer engine (FOnline Engine), with a lot of bugs involved in the process. This means the dialogues were those from the original game, the balance was from the original game, the perks, the skills and the combat system too (except the real-time mode).

Game was all in Russian, as cvet, its main developer, is Belorussian. By then, a non-Russian speaking player was unable to do any quest - and even Russians were only able to complete very few.

To be continued~

The third Closed Beta-Test was the period between OBT 2 (Late 2008) and OBT 3 (Starting on August 15, 2009). During this private session, one had to ask cvet (developer of FOnline engine and of FOnline: The Life After) to be granted to play the game and see the game forums (located on www.fonline.ru at this time). Note that even if it was the third closed test of the FOnline engine, it was the first closed beta test of FOnline: 2238.
