Bases are the core of FOnline: 2238. It was, at the very beginning of FOnline, the first difference between the two servers (2238 and TLA). At that time, FOnline: 2238 was still called Factions Mod. By taking a base, your gang gets a faction name, a safe place to store its stuff and a computer to add or remove players from the team. That last advantage is one of the main differences with a simple tent, for example. Faction bases will appear in blue on the worldmap.

If base's terminal isn't used by a member at least once every four weeks, the base and the gang name will be removed.

To buy a base

The trade

You can buy your bases in Redding, Klamath and Junktown. Each time, the base seller is a trapper into the town's main bar. Bases cost 30 000 caps, 50 000 caps, 70 000 caps, 130 000 caps or 500 000 caps. Talk to the trapper while a few members of your gang (Two or three) are arrowed on you and very close to the trapper, then tell him what kind of base you wish - depending on price. Clicking on the "say" button, you will be able to write you own faction name (It has to be on that list). Well done, your faction is made, your gang has a base that you can see on the worldmap!

DIY bases

You can start a faction as it was so far - by buying a base as above, spawned randomly in The Middle of Nowhere.

You can also gather 10 000 caps, go to construction foreworker (in NCR, VC or SF) with two fellas, pick a name of faction (if you are buying a base for the first time) and get construction worker in fancy red shirt. Try to quickly move to exit grid, some players are more than eager to kill him. Sometimes it also happened that construction workers dissappear e.g. from your tent or base, in that case you must leave that place for worldmap and wait for the worker to join you, usually it takes several attemps.

With construction worker in party we go to desired place, enter at empty encounter and tell worker we want to have a base constructed here. Then we get location named "Building Site":

and on progress board we have required amount of materials:

Bulletinboard.jpg

After gathering all of them we talk to construction worker again, he's asking about base name (not bond in any way to faction name, it's only for recognizing this base in terminal - Brand New Terminal services all faction bases from one spot), then on Building Site we get cool base we worked so hard for. Construction worker disappears, he has no use anymore.

Buying another bases with the same faction leader doesn't require having two dudes in party, you don't have to give a faction name again.

There are four types of base to pick:

After buying a worker and after constructing a base we need to set Hideout clearance menu in terminal, according to our needs. Only by this our chars can see the place. Sometimes it's needed to reloging of them.

Note: Clearances are automatically reset when the construction site changes into the base. Hideoutsclearance.jpg

Particular case : Members of another faction

If you are already part of a faction (Like Vault City, the Mordinos, a players gang, etc), you won't be able to buy a base. You have to resign first from their faction and then try to buy a base or getting invited in some players base.

Base management

From the "Manage Members" option, you can add a new member to your faction.
In the "Manage Members" menu, leaders of the faction can manage their mates.

Add a member

You have to be the leader of the faction or an important member to do so :

  • "Manage members".
  • "Invite new member".
  • Select "Say", and write the name of the player you want to add. Once you have written the name and pressed enter, they will be "Invited". "Invited" players can't see your base on the worldmap but can't be attacked by the mercs guarding your base either.

All this being done, you have to bring the new member to your base. He will use the computer and accept your invitation : From that time, he will be a member of your faction and will see the base on the worldmap.

Add a friend

You have to be the leader of the faction or an important member to do so :

  • "Browse the database".
  • "Create new record for non-member".
  • Select "Say", and write the name of the player you want to add. Once you have written the name and pressed enter, a record will be created for this name. You then set the "Status" of that record the "Friend".

You will then have to bring the new friend to your base. From that time, he will be a friend of your faction and will see the base on the worldmap. Upon entering your base location the player will recieve a message in the chat window confirming that they are considered a friend at the base and can freely return to the location. If a friend is killed at the base for whatever reason, they will no longer see the base on the world map. To re-add them, simply bring them back to the base location, you do not need to add them as friend again.

To change the status of records once they are entered simply browse the database.

Promote/Demote

You have to be of an higher rang than the player you want to promote/demote.

  • "Manage members".
  • "Promote member".
  • Select "Say" and add the name of the player you want to promote.

Or :

  • "Manage members".
  • "Browse members list".
  • Browse the list and select "promote" when you are on the right page.
Setting a new leader

To set a new leader, the actual leader has to resign (he can be invited again right after this). When he resigns, the highest promoted member will be set leader instead. If there are more than one player at the highest rank (Right before leader), one of them is chosen randomly.

Protect your base

You can put some mercs or slaves in your base to defend it. They will kill any enemy entering your base (Because of a betrayal). Tell them to guard the place, and to shoot at anyone who isn't a member of your faction.

Available bases maps

Cave

The Cave base

The Cave, really easy to defend but a bit small. It's the only base map divided into two parts : One part is the cliff side, with the entrance of the cave on one side - an empty desert map - and the other part is the inside of the cave itself. It contains the usual crafting tools (Workbench, still), a brahmin pen and only 3 lockers. It's not a very good base since Depot has more containers and is sold at the same price, but cave has one advantage : It's really, really easy to defend it, because you just have to put mercs or slaves on the tiny cave entrance. The cave is the Only base you can purchase from all three of the base sellers, thus it is available from all three cities and their respective base seller in each. Because of this, the Cave is one of the most varied bases around as it can be found almost anywhere for a measly 30 000 caps.

Depot

The Depot base

Depot is a small outpost, with 3 lockers, 2 desks (one looks like a workbench), 2 shelves, and 2 table. 9 containers total when you consider it also has a workbench with the standard toolboard for small storage above it and a still. There's also a brahmin pen containing one brahmin. On the map, you can find wood and flint (does not replenish). It's a good and cheap base, and the spawn is straight below the door and chairs outside. Guards can be present simply to the far right, near the trees, and they will have the small spawn area in their sight. Base location seems to typically be somewhere West of Klamath. The Depot is sold in Klamath, is the same price as the Cave, yet offers considerably more than a simple Cave. Depot can be purchased from the base seller, Smiley his name is, in Klamath, located in the bar and hotel at the Main entrance.

Scrapheap

The Scrapheap base

Scrapheap is a popular base costing 70 000 caps. It is larger than Depot or Cave. Its location is often between Redding and Broken Hills. It contains 5 lockers, a workbench, a still and a brahmin pen. Thus offering one of the lowest resources when compared to other bases, with the Cave being on similar grounds yet having a bigger brahmin pen and more brahmin than both Depot and Cave. Scrapheap is the specialty base sold from the Redding base seller, who is located in the Malamute Saloon, which is above the Doctors building.

Outpost

The Outpost base

The outpost is one of the most expensive maps : It will cost you 130 000 caps! Very easy to defend because it is surrounded by walls, it has three buildings and two tents and is one of the best base maps. Its location on the worldmap will often be between NCR and Junktown. It has a dozen of lockers, a workbench, a still, and you can find there fruits and fibers. By far, the unique resources offered solely by this base make it one of the best choices, as it has a monopoly on fruit and fibers that no other base has, and also has the largest brahmin pen possible with many in it, meaning many a new char can shovel his poo in absolute safety. Outpost base is the specialty base sold from the Junktown base seller, who is located in the very first building after entering Junktown gates.

Trapper Camp

Old Bunker

The Old Bunker base, outside
The Old Bunker base, inside

The bunker is by far the most expensive base. While the outside part of the map is very difficult to defend, an enemy will have a very difficult time getting to the inside of a well-guarded bunker. It has fifteen lockers, a crate near its still, two computers that contain electronic parts, a waterpump, and three lockers in the walls that are difficult to see. The room that has four lockers in it is locked with a yellow keycard, making it easier to store your valuables in the event of a raid for a total of 23 storage containers plus a workbench. Besides its massive amount of storage space, the front of the base has rocks that can be used to mine iron ore and minerals, making this by far the best base money can buy. Oddly enough, the base has no brahmin pen.
